A Dream Comes True

In 2008, a group of people came together and started a Sabetha Health and Wellness Committee. Their goal was to research, promote, secure funding and run a Health and Wellness Center. Ten years later, their dream is coming true. The building will be constructed on Sabetha Community Hospital Campus at 14th and Oregon St, which is owned by the City. The city commissioners approved the construction of the Health and Wellness Center, using funds already raised by the Sabetha Health and Wellness Committee. A management agreement was signed with the hospital for the day to day operations of the center. AHRS Construction Architect designed the facility to fall on or below the $2.1 million budget. Additional funds were raised to add 2 endless pools to the building plan. The pools can hold up to 5 people for water aerobic class and can also be used for aquatic therapy.

The City will appoint an Advisory Board consisting of representatives from the city commission, the Sabetha Health and Wellness Committee and Sabetha Community Hospital Board. Sabetha Community Hospital has hired Greta Heiman to manage the center and other staff will be hired as needed.

Please call Greta Heiman at (785) 284-1538 with any questions about the Health and Wellness Center.

Meet our Wellness Center Director

First off, I'd like to introduce myself to those that may not know me. I'm Greta Heiman and was born and raised right here in Sabetha. I graduated from Kansas State University with my bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and furthered my education by earning my Master's in Business Administration from Newman University in Wichita, KS. I'm very excited to have been selected as the new Wellness Director for the Sabetha Health and Wellness Center (SHWC).

My goals for the SHWC are to offer the community of Sabetha a top of the line facility with something for everyone. We will strive to promote healthy lifestyles, with "lifestyle" being the key. Health and quality of life is something many of us take for granted until we no longer have it. At the SHWC, we want to make it our mission to reach as many individuals as possible to improve and maintain health and quality of life. Not only will the facility offer brand new cardio and weight equipment, but it will also have therapy pools for rehabilitation, water aerobics, and lap swimming. The facility will also feature two rooms for group exercise classes along with a gymnasium that houses a three-lane walking track around it.

In previous employment, I gained knowledge and experience working for the Greater Wichita YMCA. The Greater Wichita YMCA's are some of the best facilities in the state of Kansas. Like the SHWC, they too placed their focus on overall health and quality of life for every person that entered their facility.

At the SHWC, we want to be a facility that builds a strong community and has something to offer beginners and advanced individuals alike. Please like our Facebook page Sabetha Health & Wellness Center to follow updates and progress on the new facility.
