Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. Dyslexia is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling, writing, decoding, and pronouncing words.
These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.
Early identification and treatment is KEY! Most individuals need additional support from a teacher, tutor, or therapist specifically trained in using a multisensory, structured language approach.

In the hand of a well-trained and experienced instructor, it is a powerful tool. Jill Bachtold, our licensed and certified Speech Language Pathologist has additional certification from the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Her additional training in dyslexia and reading intervention enables her to evaluate individuals for dyslexia as well as create individualized lessons using the Orton-Gillingham Approach so students can progress in literacy skills.
